I'm starting to think that a lot of the time people are very harsh on Bioware for what they are trying to achieve. This is why.
There has been a clear sense of progression with their games since Baldurs Gate to get to where they are now. They want their games to be played by a wider audience so they continue to evolve.
So many jump on the bandwagon of "they are dumbing down". Having played DA2 through as every class (and loving every minute) I feel that is a harsh critique to lay at their feet. Streamlining however would be a fairer observation. The characters and sense of place they create is second to none and it's testament to their skill that recently they have created characters I have loved, and some I have hated.
Other developers should take note that whilst they may not be the most technically gifted developers, they are head and shoulders above in terms of creating lived in environments and characters that (sometimes) you would love to meet. I feel Fenris (despite being a great nod to Mass Effect fans) is an irritating douchebag. However I also like the fact that I am drawn to dislike him as it adds another layer to the experience.
And thats what Bioware does better than any of its peers. It creates unforgettable experiences.
Thats my two cents anyway.
