We won't get to explore Amalur anymore.
I don't know much about baseball apart from it's Rounders with bigger bats and pyjamas. I do know that Curt Schilling, the man that formed 38 studios was an ex MLB player. His fledging studio created a game with huge talent behind it. Morrowind and Oblivions lead designer Ken Rolston came in to help with, well design. Fantasy writer RA Salvatore created Amalur and its deep and complicated history from scratch. And Todd McFarlane contributed his artistic stylings. They all pitched in to create a vibrant, large and rewarding action RPG with glorious combat and so much future potential. And everyone ignored it.
I blame the long forboding shadow cast by Skyrim.
Just 3 months later and after a kerfuffle with Rhode Island State feeding them money in a futile attempt to keep them afloat, 38 studios is no more.
And much like a dead music star since its closure sales of Kingdoms of Amalur have shot up.
RIP 38 studios. You made one great game and i'm sad we didn't get to see more.
